The ProWeb handoffs to evaluate
A remote team needs to know what arrived, what was reviewed, and who owns the next action.
| Workflow | Published role | Readiness check |
|---|---|---|
| ProWeb Scanned Documents | Upload and access from the client list or a return | File belongs to the right taxpayer and includes all pages |
| ProWeb PrepCheck | Reference-linked research in the left menu | Answer is verified and associated with the client question |
| TaxAutomate for ProWeb | Shared collection, source approval, and configured return handoff | Prepared work reaches the right client and reviewer |

Document access is the beginning of the ProWeb handoff
TaxSlayer documents Scanned Documents access from the ProWeb client list and from inside a return, with upload controls in both locations. Use that native process as the starting point. Then identify who checks the packet, who records a missing item, and how another preparer sees the decision.
A shared file location does not tell a reviewer which statement superseded another one or why a client answer changed the prepared work. Define those decisions explicitly in the evaluation. The next person should be able to resume the engagement without reading an unrelated email chain to learn what remains open.
Keep research and client facts connected
ProWeb PrepCheck appears in the Welcome-page and 1040 left menus. TaxSlayer describes reference-linked answers and tells users to check the references. Evaluate the source of an answer, then decide where the team retains the question and the client facts to which it applies.
A reviewer may have a correct general answer while still lacking a fact from the taxpayer. Show how that unanswered question becomes an assigned request and how the response returns to preparation. Research assistance should fit into the case record without turning a missing fact into an assumed conclusion.
Test preparation across two staff roles
TaxAutomate's available ProWeb workflow connects collection and follow-up with source-linked binder review and approved preparation work. The integration is configured for the firm's ProWeb environment and correct preparer and client context. Setup confirms the supported delivery method.
Have one staff member gather the documents and another approve the prepared work. Give the reviewer a corrected upload and a question that still awaits the client. Follow the approved work to the intended ProWeb return, then ask the reviewer to identify what can proceed and what still needs attention.
Choose a process that survives a remote handoff
Evaluate account selection, tax year, source ownership, and the state of work after an interruption. A useful trial includes a preparer leaving the engagement and a colleague resuming it. Record whether that colleague can identify the current binder, controlling source, approval, and outstanding request.
Compare time spent searching for information separately from time spent reviewing the return. Keep final calculations, diagnostics, judgment, and filing with the professional. If your staff uses Desktop as well as ProWeb, validate that second workflow independently rather than transferring assumptions between the products.
- Verify the taxpayer and year before the preparation handoff.
- Keep a replacement document distinguishable from the superseded source.
- Assign one owner to each unanswered client question.
- Show what the next reviewer sees after approved work reaches ProWeb.
