Drake Workflow
- 1
Direct data entry by the desktop agent
Install the TaxAutomate desktop agent on the Windows machine where Drake runs (one-time setup). The agent enters the completed return directly into Drake's own data-entry screens (Drake 2024 and 2025), field by field, like a preparer would — so Drake's own validations run on every field. No import files are generated and nothing is written into Drake's data folder. One click launches Drake with the completed return open, ready to review.
- 2
Review the entered data
Verify the entered data on each screen before completing the return.

Confidence Indicators
Common Considerations
Duplicate Detection
If a client already has data in the tax software, delivering a return may duplicate or conflict with existing entries. Review the client's existing data in your software before delivery.
Multi-Document Returns
Returns with multiple W-2s, 1099s, or K-1s are delivered as a single completed return covering all forms. Each form appears as a separate entry in the tax software.
Unsupported Fields
Some fields may not be extracted:
- Fields requiring manual calculation
- Elections and checkboxes requiring preparer judgment
- Supplemental narrative statements
Client Matching
TaxAutomate reads your existing software's client files to import client identity:
- Drake:
.DI4 / .DI5 / .D24 / .D25, ProSeries:.23I / .24I / .25I(read only)
TaxAutomate provides data extraction and direct data entry into supported tax software. The tax preparer is responsible for reviewing all entered data, ensuring accuracy, and making professional judgments regarding the tax return.
