Understand CrossLink's native document import and research assistance, then evaluate the collection, follow-up, and preparation work around the return.

Separate the CrossLink jobs you want to improve

Native assistance and a connected client workflow can address different parts of the same engagement.

Start with the native tool already inside CrossLink

CrossLink says Tax Vision Assist is included and imports IDs, W-2s, 1099-Ks, 1099-Rs, and SSA-1099s. The same page describes contextual research, suggested client questions, and documentation guidance. An honest comparison includes that assistance instead of describing the native option only as OCR.

Demonstrate the native workflow with the documents your office regularly receives. Record where it handles the task well and where staff still needs to locate evidence, ask a question, or complete other preparation work. That establishes a practical baseline for evaluating a broader system.

Evaluate the walk-in client who leaves with an open request

A common office handoff begins with a packet that appears complete until the preparer opens it. A wage statement may be missing a page, the client may promise another document, or the person who greeted the client may leave before the return is ready. The evaluation should preserve those open items across the staff change.

Have one employee receive the documents and another prepare the return. Observe where the unresolved request lives, who contacts the client, and how the response returns to the same record. Judge the workflow by whether the next employee understands what to do without reconstructing the conversation.

Follow approved evidence to the CrossLink workstation

TaxAutomate's available CrossLink workflow connects client collection and follow-up to a bookmarked binder, source approval, and a paired Windows connector for supported desktop entry. Bring the workstation configuration and return requirements into the demo so the handoff is shown in the environment your preparer uses.

Select an extracted value for correction, approve the corrected source work, and inspect the resulting CrossLink entry. Then add a replacement document. The preparer should be able to explain what changed and identify any remaining exception before continuing with the return.

Choose around the office bottleneck

If the packet is complete and the remaining task is entering a supported document, begin with CrossLink's included tool. If missing information and staff coordination delay preparation, include those stages in the TaxAutomate evaluation. A longer feature list is useful only when the office can assign a real job to the additional features.

Measure waiting time separately from active staff work, and keep one owner for every unresolved client question. The preparer still checks imported or entered values, reviews diagnostics, makes tax decisions, and controls filing. Those responsibilities belong in the normal workflow, including days with high walk-in volume.

  • Use your actual CrossLink desktop configuration.
  • Include an incomplete packet and a change of preparer.
  • Show the response to a missing-document request on the client record.
  • Verify the source and the CrossLink result before final review.
